The Native Flute brings to us the Voice Of The Wood. This instrument carries many voices, all filled with love and spirit.
Every Native Flute has its own voice, yet I believe it carries many voices in one. I believe the spirit of all that has touched the wood of the tree is carried on.
Let us listen and see if we can not hear all the voices. The strong voice of Mother Earth is heard through out the roots, the softness of the rabbit, the grace of the deer, the howl of the wolf, the bellowing of the buffalo, the screech of the eagle, the whistle of the robin. Can you not hear the voices as you listen to the Voice Of The Wood?
There would be no Native Flute if The Great Spirit had not given us the gift of the tree. The tree has many purposes.Home for the birds and other animals. Some give us fruit to eat when we and the animals are hungry. Wood for our campfires to cook the food and give us warmth. Shade in the heat of the day.
Working together with the wind the leaves gives us a gentle breeze as we relax under the shade.
Look at a tree sometime, what do you see? Can you not see the outstreched arms reaching for The Great Spirit in Prayer?
Let us respect the tree for it gives us so much.
There are many types of woods the Native Flute is made from. The most popular is the Cedar. Redwood, Oak, Maple, Pine, Cherry, Walnut, Pecan, the list is endless. Each different wood will give the flute a different voice.
